Have a seat!
Election day 2006 and the stakes could not be any higher. Up for grabs are seats in both the House and the Senate. And a win by the Democrats
and control of the government will no longer be in total control of one
party - the Republicans.
What this all means is that a huge political shift is in the making and
the Republicans are the ones that are going to be shifted. The
Republicans have basically enjoyed a near monopoly in both the House and
the Senate since 1994. However, now that is all about to change.
For most Americans the last few years have been filled with much
discontent. And the brunt of the discontent will be aimed at the
Republicans.
Scandals rocked the Republicans, from the months-long corruption
investigation spawned by lobbyist Jack Abramoff to the revelation that
former Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., had sent sexually explicit computer
messages to teenage congressional pages.
History also is working against the Republicans. Since World War II,
the party in control of the White House has lost an average 31 House
seats and six Senate seats in the second midterm election of a
president’s tenure in office.
Most Americans really don't think about who they vote for or what the
candidates stand for. They just vote along party lines. Republicans tend
to vote for the Republican candidates and the Democrats tend to vote for
the Democratic candidates.
Funny thing though. This time the Republicans are going to abandon their
party and vote for Democrats. They are tired of the same old shit and
are actually going to do something about it.
And what they are expected to do is VOTE! They are expected to vote for
change. Any change! Anything but the same status quo from the
professional politicians in Washington.
This time the people don't seem to care about their party affiliation.
This time they are just fed up with the politicians sitting around doing
nothing. And when they finally do something they mess it up.
So have a seat. Sit down and turn on the TV or read the news paper.
Check the election results and know that you won't be the only one
sitting down.
Soon a new House and Senate will be sworn in and seated. And most of the
people that will have a seat will be Democrats.
